Kenchiku is the first zine transmission from SQUELCH Studio — a photographic study in urban rhythm, architectural density, and structural silence.

Shot across several cities in Japan, this volume gathers photographs that explore the tension between built form and mass and empty space: between the built world and the ghosts it leaves behind.

Framed through a brutalist and liminal lens, these images capture the overlooked, the echoing, the transitional, where architecture becomes signal, and cities drift into static.

Kenchiku explores the hard edges and soft absences of urban space; fragments of structure caught in transition. This curated collection of images speak in the language of concrete, shadow, and symmetry.

The entire zine is self-shot, self-curated, self-designed and self-publish by J.A.D. Woodhouse, artist and founder of SQUELCH studio.
